Our client approached us with the vision to invest in their family home to enable comfort for future generations and generations of the present. They wanted to grow their family home to accommodate more living space and a working studio. 

The project included a single storey extension for the entire rear elevation of the property and some demolition of internal walls. This required some complex structural and technical detailing to achieve the clean finish the client desired.

This residential project consisted of a multi-phased design and build programme to support an adapting change in living arrangements.

All aspects of the design considered full flexibility within the updated spaces to enable and allow for future accessibility needs. This included wide opening doors and level access throughout.

  1. The first phase consisted of the rear extension to provide a study/ ground floor accessible bedroom and bathroom, and a luxurious kitchen, dining , living space to host large family events.
  2. The second phase included the full conversion of the garage and utility spaces to provide an alternative kitchen space and large open studio to enable a range of family activities such as artistic works.

Our involvement extended to the management of the design team and coordination with the clients appointed builder and building control team. Due to the large quantities of glazed units throughout the design, we carefully considered energy efficiency and provided cost-effective thermal specifications that will provide longer term savings on operational costs such as energy bills and cleaning.
